Welfare Rights

Connect to Welfare Rights

Connect to Welfare Rights is a Big Lottery funded project covering the West of Scotland. Deafblind and visually impaired adults can find it difficult to access the welfare system, which may result in hardship. The project aims to make the welfare system more accessible.

Project aims are:

  • Deafblind and blind people will experience less financial hardship due to being able to access information on welfare reforms and maximise income with the help of the project
  • Deafblind and blind people will be better informed and more involved in the processes which affect their financial health, thus avoiding unnecessary hardship
  • Services to deafblind and blind people will be improved as a direct result of more effective working relationships being established between mainstream organisations and those working in the field of sensory impairment
  • The confidence levels experienced by deafblind and blind people will increase

This will be done by:

  • Providing access to information in preferred formats
  • Giving advice and support
  • Maximising income
  • Improving equality
  • Raising awareness
