Scottish Government announces BSL National Advisory Group (BSL NAG) members

The Scottish Government has today announced a new expert advisory group has been appointed to support the implementation of legislation which will improve the way public services meet the needs of Deaf / Deafblind British Sign Language (BSL) users living in Scotland.

This follows the introduction of the historic BSL (Scotland) Act 2015 last September, which recognised BSL as a language of Scotland, and will result in the first BSL Action Plan.

All members will be appointed to the group for two years, and will oversee the development of the first BSL National Plan. The two remaining places will be taken by Deaf people who are under 18 years-old, and will be filled later this month.

The Deaf Sector Partnership (DSP), which has been created by the Scottish Government to support the implementation of the new BSL (Scotland) Act 2015, will be supporting both BSL NAG members and Deaf / Deafblind BSL users around Scotland. For more information about DSP, please check the website.

Deafblind Scotland are delighted to note that three Deafblind individuals, Alison Marshall, Debra Wherrett and Leona Glennie, have been appointed places on the NAG
