Deafblind Scotland is a membership organisation.
If you would like information on membership please
contact us. We
use the definition of deafblindness from the Breaking Through Report of
1988:
People are regarded as
deafblind if they have a severe degree of combined visual and auditory
impairment resulting in problems of communication, information and mobility.
The aim of Deafblind Scotland is:
- To help deafblind people in Scotland live as
rightful members of their own communities.
Our registered office is in Lenzie, at 21
Alexandra Ave, Lenzie. We also have the use of an office base in Edinburgh,
Fife and West Lothian.
Until 1st April 2001 we were the Scottish branch
of Deafblind UK, 100 Bridge Street, Peterborough.
The newly formed Deafblind Scotland serves
Scottish members while still maintaining close links with Deafblind UK.
We aim to work in partnership on the bigger
issues yet be able to more effectively act on issues of particular interest to
Scottish members.
Deafblind Scotland has 500 adults members aged
from 16 -100, the vast majority of whom live in their own homes.
4 core and 7 project staff are based in Lenzie
and Kirkintilloch offices and 20 trained guide/communicators work across
Scotland, assignments being arranged from the Lenzie office. |
