Participation Project

Deafblind people can find it difficult to access statutory and voluntary services, including health and social care services.

The Participation Project is funded by the Scottish Government for one year to enable Deafblind Scotland to appoint two Participation Officers who will seek to establish partnerships with local and national organisations in an effort to ensure services are inclusive and take into account the specialist needs of those who live with dual sensory impairment.

The Participation Project will:

  • Inform deafblind people of the services available to them from One Stop Shops and how to access these
  • Provide regular clinics offering support and advice to deafblind people
  • Ensure mainstream services are fully accessible by deafblind people
  • Encouraging and facilitate the involvement of deafblind people in the design and implementation of service provision
  • Work in partnership with local providers to deliver a specialist assessment service for deafblind people
  • Encourage early diagnosis and early intervention in the lives of those who have a dual sensory impairment
