Fancy getting one over on your friends by sipping a cappuccino in the most ‘happening’ Starbucks on the planet? Then pop into the Forbidden City in Beijing for a wee caffeine boost before starting out on Deafblind Scotland’s trek of the Great Wall of China, perhaps the most iconic structure in the world.
China is the ‘next big thing’ and never far from news headlines; with a booming economy and Beijing playing host to this year’s Olympics, now is the perfect time to visit a beautiful country steeped in tradition, history and mythology. For those with a passion for culture and a sense of adventure, China leaves an indelible mark on all who go there.
Aside from the spectacular architecture of the Great Wall and the stunning surrounding scenery, one of the most rewarding aspects of this trek is the rare opportunity to trek and camp in a remote part of rural China and to experience local life in its unspoilt state. The Great Wall attracts over a million visitors each year, but the vast majority of tourists only visit a small section of the wall near Beijing, whilst our route will take us beyond the regular tourist trail and onto sections of the wall that have only been seen by a handful of westerners over the last hundred years.
People from all walks of life take part in this challenge but it's vital that you train beforehand so that you get the most out of the trek. A suggested training plan is available and trek staff can also provide training tips, as required.
Participants must pay an initial deposit of £299 and then raise a minimum sponsorship of £2600 but don’t stress out about raising the funds; once you get started you’ll realise it’s quite straightforward given you are doing something amazing and we’ll be on hand to give you examples and ideas of how to do it in an enjoyable way.
Included in the price: flights and all interval travel, accommodation, camping equipment, all food (except three meals), water, refreshments, guides, a doctor and medical support.
