Exciting project puts deafblind people ‘in touch’ with their community

The difficulties dual sensory impaired people have with communicating, accessing information and mobility often prevents them from accessing a range of community-based activities.

A Deafblind Scotland member ‘gets physical’

We’ve launched an exciting new project to address this problem. ‘Into Touch’ is a three year initiative funded by the Scottish Executive, the Big Lottery Fund and Deafblind Scotland. It aims to improve deafblind people’s physical health and sense of well-being by supporting them to participate in local events, from fitness groups to social gatherings to learning opportunities.

Increasing deafblind awareness amongst mainstream providers and encouraging the provision of accessible activities are also integral to the project’s objectives.
