Don’t Judge

(from Candlelight and Pathways collection)

Don’t judge me. Don’t
think because
my eyes are dim
I cannot see the glow
Beneath, behind a
warming smile
When a stranger says
“ Hello”

Don’t judge. Don’t think
because
My ears are deaf
I cannot hear the song
Of children and of angels
Of songbirds as they rise
Above the maddening
throng.

Don’t judge. Don’t think
Because my
lips are sealed
I cannot sing and shout
Or join in laughter. Fun
and games
With others round about

I can see. Yes I can see
What sighted eyes can’t
see
I can hear. Yes, I can hear
What hearing ears can’t
hear
I can sing. Yes I can
Shout
There’s dancing in my
feet
I know. I feel within my
soul
The music of life’s beat.
